Project BAM

Project BAM

Client: PeopleMatter Location: North Charleston, S.C. Scope: Redesign and reconfiguration of existing space Description: GreenBy3 was hired to take over the reconfiguration of PeopleMatter’s internal facilities at its current headquarters in North Charleston. GreenBy3 seamlessly took over project coordination to allow PeopleMatter employees assigned to the task to get back to what they do best: growing and expanding the company. Unique features: GreenBy3 incorporated reclaimed, like-new DIRTT wall and glass panels into the design, which saved the client money compared to the construction of offices using new drywall. Data communications were wired to all stations from above. The design incorporated an open floor plan, open ceilings and flexible work space. Client feedback: “We hired GreenBy3 to take oversight of this project. They had the expertise, local connections, and resources to make the project a success. GreenBy3 was the über project manager with the ability to communicate with company executives as effectively as they did with project managers.” – Mark Deaton, PeopleMatter Please specify a Flickr ID for this...

FF&E

Entrance to Herman Miller Design Yard in Zeeland, Michigan. When GreenBy3 provides advisory services for a building project, one of the project areas we help coordinate is space planning and Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment — or FF&E to those in the know.  We introduce different furniture companies to the client and then work together toward the client’s goal. GreenBy3 likes to take a holistic approach to FF&E, involving the project architect as well as the client. In this capacity, we recently traveled to  Herman Miller’s Design Yard in Zeeland. Michigan. Traveling with us was our client, the project architect, regional reps for Herman Miller and representatives from Alfred Williams, our local dealer of Herman Miller products. Intimate showrooms are found throughout the Design Yard, so potential clients can see furniture configurations, fabrics, and surface materials long before any meetings starts. The atmosphere encourages creativity, collaboration, and trying new ideas. In keeping with their very contemporary style, Herman Miller makes it their business to study changing trends in the workplace and for workers....

GreenBy3 Project featured on Home Tour

Landmark Apartments originally constructed between 1922 and 1926. This spring the Hendersonville Historic Preservation Commission hosted a driving tour of historic homes which were all designed in the 1920s and 1930s by local architect Erle G. Stillwell. The Landmark Apartments, featured on the tour, are notable because they were renovated between 2008 – 2010 maintaining 1920s design details while using cutting edge green building practices. GreenBy3 served as the Sustainability Advisor on this project. The renovation utilized reclaimed materials (the stamp for Biltmore Forest lumber company was found on the underside of original floor boards). Period features such as transoms, light fixtures, and window and door styles were preserved, but recreated using new, energy saving materials and design. Solar roof panels provide energy for the building. Indoor air quality was improved through choices of insulation, adhesives, paints, and other building materials that minimize “off-gassing”. Landmark Apartments are located within sight of GreenBy3‘s latest Hendersonville project, Biz 611. This block of downtown is setting a new standard for building with...

Biz611 Project Update

In recent posts we have shared some detail about our new project in Hendersonville, NC. Now that deconstruction and reclamation are complete, we are ready to focus on the new building that is to take shape on the now empty lot at 611 Church Street in downtown Hendersonville. The new building will be a business incubator for start-up green and software development companies. Appropriate to its purpose, it will be an environmentally friendly building; maximizing natural light, generating solar energy, and capturing water for the building’s use by way of the inverted roof. For anyone passing by on the street, a couple of features will immediately announce the building’s green orientation. One is the plug-in station for electric or hybrid vehicles. Another is the “living wall” featuring a vertical garden on the the Church Street side of the building. The 9,000 square-foot, two-story building will have 16 individual offices spaces, ranging from a one-person office to a suite that will accommodate six to eight people. Generous shared space including...

Reclaimed Furniture Will Lower Costs for GreenBy3 Clients

A local firm moving to new offices offered GreenBy3 the furnishings they will not need in their new space. Last week we rented a 20-foot truck and made three trips from the downtown office to our warehouse, reclaiming desks, chairs, couches, end tables, and filing cabinets. Discarded office furniture to be reused rather than sent to the landfill. Many of these furnishings will go to two current GreenBy3 clients who are looking for more sustainable options for their projects and more affordable options as well. Some of it will go to Crisis Ministries to furnish the construction office trailer that will see heavy use while the new men’s shelter is built. Desk and task chairs GreenBy3‘s project in Hendersonville, NC will also become the recipient of some of these furnishings. That client is building a two-story business incubator for green and tech start-up companies. Reclaimed furnishings are a good fit for the building’s purpose and tenants, plus the cost reduction will make a big difference on this ambitious project....
