Founder and Owner of GreenBy3
Jorge Riano was born in Cuba, immigrating with his family to the United States as a young child. He grew up in Texas and Florida and became interested in computers while studying at Florida State University. It was also at FSU that Jorge met his wife Legare. With their two children, the Rianos have made their home in Legare’s native Charleston, South Carolina.
Over the years, Jorge worked in the technology industry as an engineer for major corporations such as:
• Delta Air Lines
• Holiday Inn Worldwide
• AT&T Network Services
• Coca-Cola Corporate
• BellSouth
• Georgia Baptist Medical Center
• Automated Trading Desk
Jorge’s expertise in computer technology guided his professional experiences and resulted in a deep expertise in facilities management as well as IT. When he worked at Automated Trading Desk, the company decided to build a high-tech, 68,000 square foot, mission critical facility. Jorge served as the “owner’s representative” and oversaw the construction of the building. He became Director of Facilities when the building was complete.
It was while working on this big project that Jorge realized his passion for sustainable building and design, as well as his desire to help others. Founding GreenBy3 in 2008 was his logical next venture.
GreenBy3’s focus is to help others understand sustainable practices when building, renovating, or preserving historic property or when simply living in and operating their homes and businesses. Jorge works with business owners, professionals, and homeowners to help them find simple steps they can take to save energy, save money, and make a difference for our environment.
It is important to Jorge that every project makes a positive impact on people, communities, and/or our shared environment. A portion of GreenBy3’s services are directed to people and organizations in the Charleston area that need repairs or energy improvement services but cannot afford to pay.
To acknowledge the business, contractor, or individual who donates materials, GreenBy3 always lets our customers know where we reclaimed our materials. Jorge wants his customers to know there are people out there who are willing to help.
Jorge has served on the Board of Directors for:
• The Sustainability Institute of South Carolina
• EPCI College of Technology
He is a member of the US Green Council, mentors students in the Building Construction Program at Stratford High School in Ladson, SC, sits on the facilities committee for Crisis Ministries, has served as a business volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and has volunteered as a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) team member for Charleston County.
The Riano family is actively involved in their community and volunteers with numerous organizations. Jorge also enjoys sports photography for both families and children, spending many weekends shooting sporting activities and events.
