Completion of Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Catalyst Center

On Thursday, August 21st, the Catalyst Center at the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce made its official debut to a crowd of over 200. The week before the grand opening, our GreenBy3 team was busy refining all the individual elements into the cohesive final design.  The purpose of the Catalyst Center – to create a unique, inspiring space that caters to the needs of entrepreneurs and the goals of the Chamber of Commerce – was the guiding vision for the design and execution of the project, and our team has stuck closely to that from start to finish. The results are a space that our clients love, that their clients love, and of which we are proud.  Sustainability is one of the guiding principles in GreenBy3’s business model and it is something we bring to all of our client projects, often in the form of custom furniture and accent pieces made from lovingly reclaimed materials. For the Catalyst Center, our team built a 12’x4′ table out of maple flooring that we reclaimed from the Cigar Factory; we also...

PeopleMatter’s Headquarters Honored by Historic Charleston Foundation

CHARLESTON, SC — APR. 30, 2014 — PeopleMatter proudly announces that it was awarded the Historic Charleston Foundation’s coveted Robert N.S. and Patti Foos Whitelaw Founders Award for the renovation of 466 King Street, the PeopleMatter headquarters in Charleston, SC.  Honored during the Foundation’s Charter Day ceremony on April 29, the award recognizes the preservation of Charleston’s streetscapes and buildings. “I cannot express how proud I am that the restoration of our headquarters was honored by the Historic Charleston Foundation,” said Nate DaPore, PeopleMatter President and CEO. “I had a vision of the workspace I wanted to build for our team members – one that’s warm and welcoming with a high-tech, open floor plan and located in the center of historic Charleston. The building at 466 King Street was the ideal location, set on Upper King Street and surrounded by great restaurants and shops. Transforming the once dilapidated building into a modern state-of-the-art center, while preserving its historic value, was a challenge. We’re proud to have these revitalization efforts...

Construction and Demolition Recycling

The following article, written by Allison Cooke Oliverius and featuring GreenBy3 was published in December 2013 in a special publication by SC Biz News entitled RecyclomonicsSC. How businesses are collecting and recycling construction waste and turning it into other products. About 8,000 pounds of waste are typically thrown into the landfill during the construction of a 2,000-square-foot home, according to Sustainable Sources, an online green building resource. Forbes.com reports just over 600,000 houses were built in 2012 in the U.S., down from 2.5 million units built during the housing boom in 2005. When you multiply the typical amount of waste tossed into a landfill by the number of homes built, that equals a lot of construction material clogging up landfills, when so much of it can be reused or recycled. One of the bulkiest and least biodegradable pieces of construction debris is carpet. About 5 billion pounds of carpet is thrown away each year, according to Bloomberg.com. Wellman Plastics in Florence County is helping divert used carpet from the...

Reclaimed Furniture Will Lower Costs for GreenBy3 Clients

A local firm moving to new offices offered GreenBy3 the furnishings they will not need in their new space. Last week we rented a 20-foot truck and made three trips from the downtown office to our warehouse, reclaiming desks, chairs, couches, end tables, and filing cabinets. Discarded office furniture to be reused rather than sent to the landfill. Many of these furnishings will go to two current GreenBy3 clients who are looking for more sustainable options for their projects and more affordable options as well. Some of it will go to Crisis Ministries to furnish the construction office trailer that will see heavy use while the new men’s shelter is built. Desk and task chairs GreenBy3‘s project in Hendersonville, NC will also become the recipient of some of these furnishings. That client is building a two-story business incubator for green and tech start-up companies. Reclaimed furnishings are a good fit for the building’s purpose and tenants, plus the cost reduction will make a big difference on this ambitious project....
